Search Engine Optimization – SEO, or how to get better rankings on Google

The first question we should ask ourselves is :
Why do I want better SEO for my website?

  1. Better positioning of your website in google search means more free traffic
  2. Top ranking on search engines will certainly bring more visitors and clients for your business
  3. This will promote your company, services and products, so it means more money for you

What is SEO – Search Engine Optimization?

SEO means optimizing your website for a search term. In google search results, you want to have your web page appear among the top most searched results.

Basically, when people search for something, the first page is where they usually stick. The top three results are the ones receiving the most traffic or clicks from visitors. The very first result from the google search is getting 33% of the traffic for that exact keyword or phrase.
Our ultimate goal is to rank on the first page among the top 3 positions of the search results! In order to achieve that we have to use:

On-page SEO – where we will optimize the content of your website, this part of the optimization includes everything we can do on the web page in order to receive better google ranking

Off-page SEO – using back-links, social media networks, blogs and forums; it includes everything we can do outside our website to improve its visibility and rankings

How does On-page SEO work?

Google uses programs called Robots or Crawlers to figure out where your website and any other website like yours will appear on the google listings. These programs analyze your content and find keywords inside the web page. Your keywords are nothing more than search terms. Based on the keywords, the robots know what exactly your web page is talking about. That is what Google Crawlers do over and over again: looking for new content to index and find the right position – ranking – for every page in google search listings.

Your website has to be responsive

First thing you should be cautious about is to check if you have a responsive website. Best choice would be to have responsive WordPress theme installed.
This is getting more and more important since more people are using mobile devices to search on Google. For your website it is crucial to have a layout that automatically adjusts to their screen, and properly displays your website content.
What is even more interesting is that Google came up with a program Mobilegeddon, which penalizes websites that aren’t mobile friendly!

Downloading time of your website

People are using internet on the go, so the time it takes to load your website is crucial for your visitors. Google is using it as well to rank the quality of your website. There is plenty of free websites to check the time your website takes to load in the users’ browsers. The speed of your website depends on your hosting service provider and on the content you have. A lot of coding and plugins will make your website load slowly and take more time.
